Esports F4: Brazil plays on as Switzerland joins the Final front row
October 26, 2024
Team Brazil continued its streak in the Esports contests at the City of Arts & Sciences with its F4 arm scoring a big win in the first Semi-Final, with Team Switzerland joining them on the front row of the Final later after victory in the second.Brazilian Luis Felipe de Sà Tavares withstood heavy pressure from Team Singapore’s Ar Muhammad Aleef Mohamed Rafik in an opening race that boiled down to a straight fight between the two.
Brazil and Singapore slipstreamed each other clear of the pack, with Brazil drafting ahead on the Kemmel Straight on the final lap. Singapore lined up a late attack into the Bus Stop Chicane but, despite a slight rub, Brazil held on to book its place on the front row of tonight’s Final. Team Czechia completed the podium with Martin Kadlečik. Retirement after an early clash meant Team United Kingdom missed out on making the final of an Esports contest at the Games for the first time.
Switzerland’s Jimmy Antunes kept his cool to lead a four-car train in the second race, timing his pass for the lead perfectly into No Name and then steering clear of an over-shooting Netherlands to secure victory.
Netherland’s Isaac Lennert recovered for second, inches ahead of Türkiye’s Ulaș Özyildirim and Republic of South Korea driver Gyumin Kim.
The Final takes place at 18:50 this evening.

Historic Rally: Team Italy in the driving seat to earn Tarmac glory
October 26, 2024
Italy’s Andrea Zivian and Nicola Arena powered to a clean sweep of Historic Rally Tarmac stage wins on Saturday morning, while Team Great Britain retains the Overall class lead.
“Zippo” and co-driver Arena are chasing a third gold medal. The pair claimed top spot across Friday’s dedicated Gravel stages to add to their success from 2022, when Historic Rally – for cars homologated between 1971 and 1980 – made its FIA Motorsport Games debut.
Helping the cause aboard their Audi quattro, the Italians were fastest in the Historic Rally Tarmac class across the opening three stages on Saturday as the competition shifted to smooth, asphalt roads. Their advantage in the Tarmac category stands at 1:11.1s.
Currently in second is Great Britain’s dedicated Tarmac line-up of James Potter / Tim Sayer (Ford Escort RS), while Antonio Sainz (brother to two-time World Rally Champion, Carlos Sr) and Carlos Cancela guided their Porsche 911 SC to third.
To decide the Historic Rally Overall contest, Friday’s Gravel results are added to Saturday’s times. Great Britain’s mixed-surface entry of Ben Mellors and Alex Lee (Toyota Celica) retain first on the combined leaderboard, helped by a win in the third Saturday stage.
Team Italy lies second, while Czechia’s Vojtěch Štajf / Veronika Havelková (Opel Ascona) are third.
The crews face three more asphalt stages this afternoon ahead of a Super Special Stage at Circuit Ricardo Tormo to decide the Tarmac medals.
Historic Rally continues this afternoon from 14:23 local time.

Rally4: Spain takes Tarmac lead in hunt for a second Rally gold
October 26, 2024
Sergi Perez and co-driver Axel Coronado won all three Rally4 Tarmac stages for Team Spain on Saturday morning in their bid to add to their Gravel gold medal.
In the category for front-wheel-drive machinery, the Peugeot 208 pair were quickest across Friday’s six dirt stages and Super Special Stage at Circuit Ricardo Tormo to claim the Gravel class glory.
With the competition shifting to the smoother asphalt roads of the designated Tarmac Rally Area to the southwest of Valencia on Saturday, Perez / Coronado remained the in-form duo. They were fastest on all three morning stages to take a lead of 34.6s into the break as they work to secure victory in the dedicated Rally4 Tarmac contest also.
Team Türkiye’s line-up of Kerem Kazaz / Onur Vatansever kept the pressure on by finishing the opening two stages on Saturday in second. Then taking fourth on the third leg, they occupy second in class with a deficit of 34.6s.
Greece’s Christos Avgeropoulos / Efstratios Giavasis sit 15s further back, although the Netherland’s Nard Ippen / Jorie Christiaens (Opel Corsa) are only another 2.4s behind.
Perez / Coronado keep Spain in first place in Rally4 Overall – which combines both Gravel and Tarmac times – ahead of Brazil’s Luis Eduardo Stedile / Carlos Enrique Morales as Tom Kässer / Stephan Schneeweiß hold third for Germany.
Three more Tarmac routes await the crews this afternoon before a second Super Special Stage, with the top trio at the end of the day claiming the medals.
The Rally4 schedule continues this afternoon from 14:23 local time.

Rally2: Spain’s supremacy carries over to the Tarmac stages
October 26, 2024
Team Spain’s perfect record in Rally2 continues, as Alejandro Cachón and co-driver Borja Rozada surged to the top of the times in all three Tarmac stages on Saturday morning.
Representing the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games host nation in the category for four-wheel-drive cars powered by turbocharged 1600cc engines, the Toyota GR Yaris pair won all six Gravel stages on Friday before topping the Super Special Stage at Circuit Ricardo Tormo.
A new day brought a switch to smoother asphalt roads. Despite the change of discipline, Cachón / Rozada’s dominant form carried over as they secured a hat-trick of stage wins.
They now lead the dedicated Rally2 Tarmac class by 25.8s ahead of Türkiye’s Ali Türkkan / Oytun Albayrak (Ford Fiesta), who secured fourth in the day’s opening leg before improving to twice finish as the runners-up.
Sitting third, just 2.1s further back, is Kenneth Madsen / Mette Felthaus for Denmark. The Citroën C3 duo hold a 15.9s advantage over the Hyundai i20N of Team Luxembourg’s Steve Fernandez / Steve Kirfel.
Entrants face a further three Tarmac routes this afternoon prior to a second Super Special Stage, with the top trio at the end of the day winning the medals.
Denmark and Luxembourg have chosen to specialise in the Rally2 Tarmac division, which places Mexico’s Alejandro Mauro Sanchez / Adrian Perez (Škoda Fabia) third behind Spain and Türkiye in Rally2 Overall – which combines the Gravel and Tarmac stage times.
Rally2 action resumes this afternoon from 14:23 local time.

Formula 4: Spain seizes the advantage with Qualifying Race win
October 26, 2024
Spain booked its place on pole position for tomorrow’s Formula 4 medal showdown with a hard-fought victory in this afternoon’s Qualifying Race.
Juan Cota Alonso took the lead with a fast start from second on the grid, beating pole-sitter Yevan David (Sri Lanka) in a drag race to Turn 1. David was initially able to apply pressure to the Spaniard, but Cota Alonso soon broke clear.
There was still work to do, however. Andres Cardenas moved his Peruvian-flagged entry into second spot with an incisive pass on David after the Sri Lankan ran wide. Thereafter Cardenas showed impressive speed, posting the fastest lap of the race as he chased down Cota Alonso.
The Peru driver closed right up to the leader, but did not quite have enough to launch an attack. Spain thus secured pole for Sunday’s decider ahead of Peru, with Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom set to share the second row. Luxembourg, Slovakia, Israel and Japan complete the top eight on Saturday. Sunday’s race begins at 12:10 CEST.

Esports GT: Brazil and Czechia secure the front row for the Final
October 26, 2024
Team Brazil and Team Czechia will share the front row of the grid for the Esports GT Final later today after both claimed victory in this morning’s Semi-Finals.
With the race distances increased to an hour, and with each team required to make a mandatory fuel stop, the Semi-Finals featured extra jeopardy.
Brazil proved unstoppable in the opening Semi-Final, with Igor De Oliveira Rodrigues continuing his strong form from Friday to take a lights-to-flag win in a race shortened by a technical issue.
The Brazil car made an early getaway and pulled a five-second lead before taking its mandatory pit stop, rejoining clear of Team Germany’s Niklas Houben. The drama came when a technical issue caused Team Spain’s Andres Mesa Eguiagaray to disconnect when running third. The race was red flagged, and the result declared a lap back as the contest had passed the 75% point.
Standout performers included Team France, which qualified by winning yesterday’s Last Chance race and made up 10 places to finish sixth. The early stoppage did mean 2022 gold medallist Team United Kingdom was eliminated in 11th.
Team Czechia dominated the second outing, with Vojtech Fiala running well clear to set up a head-to-head with Brazil in the Final. Team Belgium was second with Mathias Kühn and Team Chile’s Angel Inostroza third. Special mention to Team Australia’s Philippa Boquida, who was spun out at the start but fought back to an impressive ninth.
The Final is set for 16:50 local time.

Karting Mini: Portugal and Estonia share the spoils
October 26, 2024
An enthralling opening battle for victory in Heat 1 Group 1 for the Karting Mini category came down to a side-by-side blast as Team Portugal eventually got the better of Team USA as the chequered flag waved.
USA’s Joshua Bergman led for almost the entire contest but Portuguese talent Xavier Lázaro pressured his rival throughout, before lining up a quite brilliant move at the start of the final lap.
Bergman responded, getting the drag down the final straight, but Lázaro held on by an astonishing 0.035s. Team Morocco’s Nahyi El Gahoudi completed the podium.
The opening heat for the second group looked to be heading the way of Team Spain as Nuvola Morales Mendez led the opening exchanges, before he was eventually shuffled down to third.
It was Team Estonia’s Bennet Korjus powering through to take the win ahead of Team Australia’s Jay Kostecki.
The heats continue for Karting Sprint Jr, Karting Sprint Sr and Karting Mini, before the afternoon is concluded with the four-hour Karting Endurance contest that will determine the medals for that particular category.

GT: United Kingdom storms to Qualifying Race victory
October 26, 2024
The United Kingdom will start this afternoon’s medal-deciding GT contest from pole position after Chris Froggatt and James Cottingham secured an impressive victory in the Qualifying Race.
The UK-liveried Ferrari took the start from P2, but Froggatt snatched the lead immediately by making a much better start than pole-sitter Finn Wiebelhaus (Team German Mercedes-AMG). In truth, this was as far as the fight for victory went.
Froggatt was handed a five-second penalty for not respecting track limits, but such was his pace advantage – well over a second a lap at times – the UK driver was able to negate this and then some. After making its mid-race stop, during which Froggatt handed over to Cottingham, the UK car was almost 20 seconds clear.
There was more bad news for Germany as Switzerland exited the pits in P2 after a charging first stint from Yannick Mettler. The German car – now driven by Hubert Haupt – also dropped behind Ukraine, but he immediately made a pass for third spot.
Haupt was the fastest man on-track during the second stint, quickly closing on to the rear of Switzerland’s Dexter Müller and making a pass. Still, there was nothing that Germany could do about the United Kingdom. The final margin of victory was 17 seconds, with Switzerland taking P3.
Spain was fourth, followed by Lithuania, Ukraine and China. Defending gold medallist France could only manage P8. The result from this race establishes the grid for the medal race, which is scheduled to go green at 16:30.

Karting Sprint Jr and Sr: Team Spain at the double
October 26, 2024
The first racing action kicked off at a sunny Aspar Circuit this morning with Team Spain enjoying home success in the opening heats.
Bosco Arias led from start to finish in a frenetic Karting Sprint Jr Heat 1, as chaos behind ensued when a multi-kart pile-up took out no fewer than nine competitors on the opening lap.
The theme continued in the scrap for the other podium positions, which were eventually taken by Team Switzerland’s Chiara Bättig and Team Türkiye’s Iskender Zülfikari.
Team Spain immediately doubled up in Karting Sprint Sr as Ruben Moya Lopez dominated the 11-lap contest, ahead of Team Czechia’s Václav Procházka and Team Malta’s Jacob Micallef.
Procházka’s performance was particularly impressive as he made a couple of eye-catching moves on his way up to second.
These bouts head a total of eight heats during Saturday covering Karting Sprint Jnr, Karting Sprint Snr and Kart Mini, whilst the medal race in Karting Endurance will take place at 14:30 CET later today.

Montenegro’s time of one minute, 41.236 seconds gobbled up the lead only in the final five minutes, as a flurry of other drivers – including several CUPRA Leon VZ TCR competitors – took their turn in first place during the half-hour session.
Meanwhile, CUPRA did take second and third place with Raphael Reis of Team Brazil and Eric Gene Casanovas of Team Spain, respectively.
