The Karting discipline is underway at the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games with all four categories in action during the opening morning at the Aspar Circuit, just south of Valencia city centre.
Karting Sprint Jnr – for drivers aged 11-14 – kicked off proceedings with Team Portugal’s Martim Meneses topping Free Practice 1, ahead of Team Greece’s Nikolaos Karagiannis and Team Estonia’s Theodor Toobal.
The Karting Sprint Snr category was next up, as drivers aged over 14 acclimatised themselves to the 1.448 km circuit.
Team Andorra’s Alex Machado set the pace with an impressive 1:02.272s lap time on his final tour, ahead of Team Chechia’s Václav Procházka and Peruvian Taylor Greenfield.
Such has been the vast entry for the Karting Mini category – making its FIA Motorsport Games debut in 2024 – that the 40-strong entry is split into two groups for practice sessions.
For drivers aged 8-11 years old – some of the youngest to compete anywhere on the FIA Motorsport Games schedule – it was Xavier Lázaro continuing Portugal’s solid morning at Aspar by taking P1. Luxembourg’s Alexandre Point and Sweden’s Benjamin Poulsen was third.
All three aforementioned categories are back on-track for their respective second practice sessions, before Karting Endurance joins the fray later this morning. The serious business commences with numerous Qualifying Practice sessions beginning at 15:25 CET.
