Team Sri Lanka driver David Yevan claimed pole position for this afternoon’s Formula 4 Qualifying Race at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, topping a tricky session in damp conditions.
Overnight rain meant all 21 runners started on Pirelli wet tyres as they headed out, and the session gradually got faster and faster as the track began to dry and grip improved.
Yevan set the initial fastest time before Team Israel’s Ariel Elkin and Team United Kingdom’s Reza Seewooruthun traded top spot between them. Then Yevan improved twice, setting two times good enough for top spot, and his ultimate best was enough to see off Team Spain’s Juan Cota Alonso by just 0.007s.
United Kingdom will start third, ahead of Team Peru driver Andres Cardenas, Luxembourg’s Chester Kieffer and Australia’s Griffin Peebles.
The Qualifying Race is due to get underway at 12:50 local time.
